If you have opened a product from the catalog, then selected edit on the full custom model and saved some attributes, however, when you view the full custom model those attributes are not there, it may be due to the product sync.
For example:
In the main product model we select "edit" on the full custom model listed in the top row of the "Recommended Products".
In the new window which popped up, navigate to the "Custom Options" menu item and then add your desired attributes such as length/width/thickness/volume.
Now, when you save the full custom model and then view it again in another window, if the attributes have not been saved it may be due to the product sync.
To verify that, go back and edit the full custom model, navigate to the "CaveWire" menu item and ensure the "In Sync" is "No"
